Briefed with the idea that Mega Malamar would “take over” Pokémon’s social channels with little context, we built the reveal around mystery, fan speculation and Malamar’s hypnotic powers.

The campaign started with strange UGC-style teasers showing people acting oddly obsessed with Malamar. These led into a fake news report that investigated the behaviour, slowly revealing Mega Malamar’s influence before the final reveal.

The result was a social-first reveal that felt playful, unsettling and highly shareable. Fans quickly picked up the hypnosis angle, joined in with theories and jokes, and helped turn a niche Pokémon into a wider conversation across Pokémon’s owned and earned channels.

We collaborated with Pokémon and various music artists (Katy Perry, Mabel and J Balvin) to develop music videos to celebrate Pokémon’s 25th. We looked after the CGI, bringing the Pokémon to life.
